Lyon Stopover

Ich kenne Lyon bislang nur als Stadt am Rande der Autobahn auf dem Weg Richtung Südfrankreich und ich habe dieses Reiseziel leider bislang viel zu wenig gewürdigt. Einige meiner Freunde haben dort studiert und ihre anfängliche Skepsis hat ist purer Begeisterung für das pulsierende Leben dieser französischen Universitätsstadt im Departement Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes gewichen. Man glaubt es kaum, aber Lyon ist die drittgrößte Stadt Frankreichs mit knapp 500.000 Einwohnern. In den Straßen der fast mittelalterlich wirkenden, sehr gut erhaltenen Altstadt pulsiert am späten Abend das Leben der Einheimischen, wo sich tagsüber die Touristen gegenseitig auf die Füße treten. Stadt und Wasser sind für mich immer eine reizvolle Kombination und Lyon hat mit den zwei Flüssen Rhone und Saône mehr zu bieten als andere Städte Frankreichs. In den Traditionsrestaurants (erkennbar am Wort "Bouchon" im Namen), lassen sich regionale Köstlichkeiten entdecken. Für mich definitiv eine Empfehlung für einen kurzen Stopover oder einen längeren Aufenthalt wenn nicht unbedingt immer das Mittelmeer das einzige Ziel sein muss. Ich werde definitiv wieder kommen, dann vielleicht auch für ein paar Tage!

I know Lyon only as a city on the edge of the motorway on the way to the South of France and I definitely think it's one of the most underrated cities in France. Some of my friends have studied there and their initial skepticism has given way to pure enthusiasm for the pulsating life of this French university town in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is hard to believe, but Lyon is the third-largest city in France with nearly 500,000 inhabitants. In the streets of the almost medieval, very well-preserved old town, the life of the locals pulsates in the late evening. Earlier this place can be very crowded because there are a lot of tourists in those narrow streets. City and water are always a charming combination for me and Lyon with the two rivers Rhone and Saône has more to offer than other cities in France. In the traditional restaurants (recognizable by the word "Bouchon" in their name), you can discover regional delicacies. For me it's definitely a recommendation for a short stopover or a longer stay and if you're looking for something else than your usual holidays at the mediterranean sea. I hope to be back soon for a longer visit.
